John Motley Morehead (1796-1866) was governor of North Carolina from 1841 to 1845. A Whig, he was born in Virginia, educated at David Caldwell's school in Greensboro, NC, and graduated from the University of North Carolina in 1817 (Dictionary of North Carolina Biography 4:321-22).
